ResBase

ResBase is an extended database designed to store and analyse data and information from core analysis such as; Routine Core Analysis (RCA), SpecialCore Analysis (SCAL), Geo Mechanics, etc. Performing core analysis requires a huge amount of resources. Experimental results are usually saved ad-hoc locally (e.g. Excel) and therefore not easy available to a wider audience. The benefits of using ResBase are several; it gives the user the possibility to access, organize and analyse all types of core data within a limited time-frame, avoiding lack of integrity and loss of data.

In general each company has their own preferred workflow and routines when utilizing core analysis data. The main scope of ResBase is to create a custom made solution in order to adequate the specific needs and focus of each customer. Modules in the frame work of ResBase can be specifically added depending upon the requests of each specific costumer. Another characteristic feature worth mentioning is the various graphical user interfaces to access ResBase for multiple different users. ResBase will also be able to communicate with softwares like Eclipse, Excel, Petreletc. as well as with internal and commercial databases, e.g. Oracle. This too will depend on the costumer’s requirement. Presently, ResBase has a well-defined data model and database-structure with a prototype graphical user interface.

The data model behind ResBase is flexible with a flat structure that acknowledges custom-defined features and requirements. This permits the user to perform regression analysis and cross-plot all type of data in an inter-disciplinary way, e.g. plot RCA-parameters together with SCAL-parameters.This feature will assist the user to search for new trends and connections within a restricted area or a selection of data, or compare different data sets to each other. For instance, wettability indices versus Corey-parameters from one field can easily be compared to other fields. Another feature that is generally appreciated by the users is the fact that all user defined filters and analysis can be saved and tracked in ResBase.

When using ResBase the user will be ensured an easy access to a specific core, well, field, lithology etc., as well as already performed and saved analysis. A search feature will lead the user directly to the required data, and a filter option will help the user to define individual limitations of a data set. For example, permeability data from a lithology can be defined by data filters, avoiding outliers in a specific study.

ResBase will also be able to search for core analogues. An advanced filter option will guide the user to find cores with comparable petrophysical properties. This feature can help the company to avoid expensive and maybe unnecessary lab analysis. Finally, a map will be accessible for easy access to geo-references and study trends from a broader field related perspective – i.e.closing the gap between core analysis and field application.
